My week at Krea University

My week at Krea University:

I recently joined a week long entrepreneurship program at Krea University, India.

I chose to join this program because for as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur and build something of my own. My dream to is build something, something that is useful to humanity.

It felt as if the week passed by in the speed of light. It was spent in learning, laughter, late night conversations and new introductions. Everything from that week is unforgettable.

Time spent playing a shooting game in Roblox with my roommate to late evening strolls or conversations beyond the dinner time – everything brings back smile on my face.

During the week, I learnt the basics of entrepreneurship, marketing, finance and the legal aspects of owning a business.

Since it was my first time attending a week long program at a university like this, my parents decided that one of them should accompany me so that if I felt home sick or unwell, they could come get me at a short notice.

My dad and I decided to go by road. We left a day earlier from Bangalore and stayed back at a hotel that night. We picked one of the hotels recommended by the university because there were high chances of other students being there too. I wanted to take that opportunity and network with the students before the day 1 of the program.

The next day, we were told to reach the university between 11:00am t0 2:00pm. I decided to go by 12noon. It gave me time to settle into my dorm and get ready for the following week. Upon reaching the university, we filled out the registration form and got the key to my dorm.

My roommate hadn’t arrived yet, so I got to pick my side of the room. The dorm was neither too small nor too big, it was just right. Dad helped me figure out how the cooler and the other switches work.

After settling in, I met a few others from the dorms nearby and we all went together for lunch. I had a good time getting to know them!

Soon after lunch was done, it was time for the parents to leave the campus. Dad gave me a tight long hug and told me to call him at any time I wanted to.

After he left, I was a bit scared but at the same time, excited and couldn’t wait to see what the week had in store for me.

After all the parents had left, an orientation was arranged for the students. During the orientation, the student volunteers introduced themselves and gave us a list of rules and regulations to follow. Afterwards we were given a break for about an hour during which we were told to go to our dorms and settle in. Later, my roommate and I together went downstairs to the common room where we had to assemble.

Later, we had a “Mix and Mingle” in which we had 30 seconds to talk to each person and get to know them. After talking to about 10 students, my voice was completely gone and my throat was paining because of the continuous shouting.

Here is how my days were spent there:

Day 1:

We learnt about the basics of entrepreneurship, the mindset of entrepreneurs, why and how they start their company.

At the end of this day, we were divided into groups of six and we were told to make an app or a product that will be useful to people and that we had to work on it for the whole week so that we could present it in front of all the parents on the final day as a presentation.

At 6:00pm, we had to attend a workshop. It could be either sports, Introduction of Virtual Reality, Cardboard engineering or Nerikomi (which is a type of Japanese pottery).

Day 2:

We learnt about the Fundamentals of a Business plan. We learnt the reasons and the uses of creating one.

After lunch, we were given a task to work with our teams and create a business plan for our company.

After the classes were done, we had to go to our respective workshops and then have dinner.

Day 3:

We learnt Introduction to Finance and Valuations, We got to know how to prepare the revenue model, how to ask for a funding from the investors and what is the in depth meaning of Finance.

We got to know how to master pitching our products to the investors.

Later, we had to work with our teams and create the revenue model for our own companies.

Day 4:

We learnt about Marketing. We got to know how to make the public aware about our product, how to sell it to the customers and which platforms we could use to market the product.

Day 5:

We learnt about how People, Purpose and Work come together. We got to know how Organizational Behavior influences ethical decisions and much more.

Day 6:

It was our last day of class. Our mentor heard each pitch made by the students and gave us feedback on what we could work on. After my team and I had proposed our idea of the startup, we got around to making the finishing touches in our presentations.

Day 7:

We gave our final presentations in front of all the parents and it was finally time to say Goodbye to eachother. We all promised to meet eachother whenever we were in the same city and stay in touch.

I know that the friends I made there were special. I may not be in constant contact with them but they were the reason I didn’t feel home-sick, why I enjoyed that week as much as I did and I am truly grateful to them. It was an unforgettable week and I will always cherish it.
